Challenging Birth Assumptions
Addressing the Rising Maternal Mortality Rate
On April 9th, 2011, Birth Matters Virginia and Shenandoah University will be hosting a maternal health summit on maternal mortality. Healthy Mothers Healthy Birth 2011 brings together experts from multiple disciplines, concerned citizens, and health professionals to examine the rising maternal mortality rate in the United States.
Summit Goals
To raise awareness of the rising u.s. maternal mortality rate
To bring together experts from multiple disciplines to examine the cause(s) of the rising maternal mortality rate with input from consumers and other maternal care professionals
To develop recommendations for reducing the maternal mortality rate in the form of a white paper, transparent results on the HMHB website, and brief YouTube documentaries
